Statement of intent

These photographs were taken in a short focused late winter period in Northern Japan.

I was aiming to produce simple balanced images which I thought aligned with Zen Buddhist ways of creating sources for reflection and contemplation.

Whilst being quite minimal I did not want to make the images so simple there was nothing to understand. I tried to avoid obvious symmetry but still retain a balanced composition reducing unnecessary detail using a restricted, almost high key tonal range.
